We had a heatwave, which definitely did affect my productivity, because I didn't sleep as well as usual, but I'm still pretty happy with what I managed. It seems to be cooling at least a bit again, which I'm definitely looking forward to. Anyway, this week was about the bangs:

Our Cap Reverse Big Bang collaboration was posted yesterday, you can find it here: The Irrefutable Constant of Our Lives.

And since one bang was done and dusted, I did sign up for the regular order Cap Big Bang. I had thought of waiting a bit, but decided I might just forget so better do it directly :D Besides, I'm nearly past the claims requirement of five thousand words already after a week of writing, so it's coming along very well. All the writing this week was for that story. I'm not yet sure if it'll be posted all at once or in chapters, but if it'll be in chapters the first one is written. I'm not sure exactly how long it'll be, I've drafted the beginning, but the rest of it is fairly vague still. It's not going to be a monster, I wouldn't sing up to a bang with something like that, but it'll certainly easily go past the required 15k.

Next week I'll continue with this, and might also start writing the Endgame related thing. I had a sort of mental hurdle that I was wrestling with when it came to it, I had scene ideas but wasn't sure what the focus should be. I did clear that, though, and now I can start writing it.

Captain America Reverse Big Bang Collaboration with art by [archiveofourown.org profile] Madara_Nycteris

Banner for the fic by Madara_Nycteris

After everything, Steve and Bucky’s lives are finally normal and happy. They share a home in Wakanda, at the farm where Bucky found peace years ago. Steve's work with the Avengers ofteen takes him to New York, but he always comes back, and they have even managed to get engaged.

Only Bucky is still carrying the fallout resulting from being vanished by Thanos, and as the months have passed, his fear of being lost again has only grown worse, until a nightmare breaks the dam and he can’t take it anymore. He sets off with the intention to finally deal with it, regretting he has to leave the life that has brought him so much happiness behind.

Steve comes home to an empty house and Bucky's engagement ring dropped on the floor, and can’t help but draw the conclusion he must have done something to drive Bucky away. Over the coming days he decides there’s no changing the past, but perhaps he can at least change his life to avoid repeating his mistakes.

Both of them believe there’s no going back to their shared life, but despite that the hope of it remains difficult to banish.

Notes:

Here's the fruit of our collaboration for the Cap RBB! For me it was a great experience and fun to come up with the story for the beautiful art.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
The Cap RBB fic is now entirely done. Our posting date is next Saturday, but I've made the AO3 draft and forbidden myself from reading it anymore. I did one final read through this week, and that will have to be enough. I'm very excited to get to the actual posting.

After that was done, I spent some time looking at my drafts for both the post-Endgame fic and what will most likely be a fic for the regular order Cap BB to see which one clamored to be written, and in the end I started with the Cap bang fic. I got a fair amount written in a very painless way, I'm hoping it'll be a similarly easy process as the reverse bang fic was. I've not yet signed up, I'll do that once I know the story will materialize within the time frame. No reason why it wouldn't, but you never know.

Like I said, next week is the RBB posting date, and hopefully a whole bunch more new words written. Also hopefully my knee decides to stop hurting, I have a chronic condition, and it decided to flame up badly enough that walking stairs was near impossible last Wednesday. It's much better already, although I'm still avoiding having to crouch because getting up is literal pain.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
Well, this week turned out to be pretty much a wash due to not sleeping well, which rather sapped my energy, but I did manage a regular amount last night, so maybe it gets better (I suspect part of it was the first few hotter days we had, it always takes me a while to get used to).

I did another round of edits for the Cap RBB fic, just polishing it at this point. I'll allow myself one more read-through over the next week, and then it'll be good to go.

That was mostly it, I added some notes on my Endgame thing and the fic that I'll write for the usual order Cap bang. Three free days next week, so that'll give me significantly more potential time to write. Whether it'll be used for writing remains to be seen I suppose.

In other news my sister gave me yarn that was a mix of blues, pinks and purples, aka very bi-colors, she knows well what I like:D
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
This week was all editing, no writing anything new.

The Cap RBB fic is now basically whipped into shape. It means all the inconsistencies are sorted out, happily there was only minor stuff (along the lines of, do they actually sleep well in this specific case or not etc.), nothing major that would have needed a lot of work. Also the text is in much better shape now; the awkward phrases, repetitions and such have been taken care of. Mostly anyway. It'll still be read through at least a couple of times to catch the final bits and pieces, but most of the work is now done.

This was a funny process, for starters I had a more thorough outline than I usually do. I didn't follow it religiously, if one were to compare there would be changes, but not with anything major. The writing was relatively easy, and in the first edit I added less than a thousand words to the 25k I had, which is less than usual, in line with the fact there were no major oddities in the first draft. Now it's only the final cleanup left, and three weeks to go until posting date, so no stress whatsoever.

As I said, I didn't yet start writing the Endgame related thing, but I did start thinking more along the lines I'll need to when I do write it. Namely, up until last week I had been thinking of what the story I want to tell is, and this week in addition I started thinking how to tell that story. I started considering the POVs, the structure, the timeline etc. All things needed for the writing, which will now start whenever I have the time, again maybe next week.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
Well, I'm really glad I got at least one very significant deadline put behind me at work on Friday, even when this spring is probably not easing up that much moving forward.

The draft of my Cap RBB fic is now completely finished, the one incomplete scene I mentioned last week ballooned into nearly four thousand words (they kept talking instead of getting into bed like I was trying to have them do :D), but that too is now finished. Word count went just over 25k, which is more than I aimed for but not terribly so, so I'm good. My beta says there are no major plot problems with it, just the usual polishing, which is even better.

It also has a title now! As predicted it was a wrestle, I spent one evening's worth of writing time trying to put ideas on paper and not liking any of my initial tries until I came at it from a different direction and found it. It's The Irrefutable Constant of Our Lives. Our posting date is June 8th, so plenty of time yet to obsessively work it over (Let's do yet another read through, she said to herself etc.)

I also kept thinking of the Endgame-related thing, I'm going back and forth on some stuff as usually happens at this point. No writing on it done yet, but I might start next week, depending on how my week turns out.

***

I've actually read only one Endgame related fic so far, and that probably won't change too much moving forward. Mostly because the idea for my own story is very clear for me, and if I were to read fics set around the movie I'd start second guessing whenever someone came close to my idea, and I'd rather not wrestle with that.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
Apparently pretty much everyone I subscribe to on AO3 is updating their fics today (or yesterday depending on their timezone, but they came to my knowledge today). Please consider my need to write, people:D

My Cap RBB fic is practically written. One scene is still incomplete, but I'm happy where I am with it. Obviously there's still a whole bunch of editing to do, but it's definitely pretty much handled now. Except I still don't have an inkling on the title.

The Endgame related thing keeps ballooning. I know where to start and where I want to go with it, but the middle part keeps getting longer. I thought at first it would be something like a 10k thing, but now I'm kind of at a place where I'm throwing my hands up and going, who even knows? At least I'm confident it won't be the longest fic I've written (unless it gains a drastic amount of additional plot, which is unlikely), but other than that I'm not even going to guess at this point.

I'm also starting to incline toward posting the chapters while still writing.

***

In completely other news, a kingdom for Steve related jokes that rely on something other than the assumption of him being a complete idiot for their humor. I'm *tired*
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
Apparently I forgot to do one last Sunday, I guess it was the long weekend that confused me of days. In the meanwhile I've actually managed a pretty respectable amount of writing, especially considering the generally busy life.

The pre-IW fic Our Sharp Edges Aligned is all the way finished, the last chapter was posted on Monday, aka a whole day before my self-set deadline:D

I've also continued working on the Cap RBB fic, which is nearing completion, and continues to be remarkably painless to write. It still doesn't have a title, so I guess all the struggling quota is set on that. I'll be hopefully finished by this time next week.

I also have fifteen hundred words (some outline, some snippets of dialogue etc.) of a story that's inspired by Endgame. It's of the flavor, "This thing makes no sense if you think of it even for half a second, so let's write something that'll make more sense." That one does have a working title, which I suspect is fairly likely to be the final title too. After seeing the movie on Wednesday I read issue 43 of the Wicked + the Divine (which incidentally is also nearing the end), and inspired by that the title for now at least is Once Again We Return. I have a solid grasp of the whole plot, and will probably keep adding detail as they pop in my head, but I'm not going to start the writing before I've finished the RBB fic.

Writing

So this is how the process goes sometimes, I was working on the Cap RBB fic:

I needed to have Bucky and Shuri have a conversation, the setting didn't really matter, just something that made sense for it to be relatively private so that Shuri can ask a sort of personal thing. So, I decided to have her work on Bucky's arm. Which leads me to think, okay, what is she doing with it? Because generalities are not that great and knowing would help with leading the conversation toward the point I wanted to make. So I tossed out that she's working to improve sensations, says something about it possibly being overwhelming at first, because the sensation in the metal hand has so far been a bit muted.

Another previously decided plot element; Steve makes and entrance, the scene in the lab is wrapped up, and they go their merry way back home. Their relationship has been established before, the story needs a vignette of happy home life.

Unsurprisingly, happy home life + increased sensation in Bucky's metal hand = now we have a handjob scene. Unplanned literally up until the moment I was writing it, but works well.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
I wrote about three thousand words today, which was certainly something. On the other hand, that was something like 85% of the word count for the whole week, so the total wasn't that staggering. Multiple reasons for it, chief among them being busy at work. The four day weekend over Easter should give me some more time for writing, but that'll be balanced somewhat by the fact that I feel like I'll have the workload of five days that need to be done by Thursday, so maybe not that much opportunity/energy to write before next Friday.

All the writing was for the Cap RBB fic, which keeps coming along nicely. I'm not worried for the timeline of writing it, the deadline is well in hand and I'm happy.

Besides the writing, I continued editing Our Sharp Edges Aligned, and chapters 2 and three 3 went out this week. Even if writing will be a challenge over the work week, I'm definitely aiming to get at least chapter four polished and out during it. In all likelihood it'll be Wednesday at the earliest, but it's progressing well enough that the whole thing will still be finished on the 23rd at the latest.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
This was definitely an everything is happening kind of a week that was somewhat exhausting on one hand, but on the other I dealt with it a lot better than I did with similar weeks earlier this year. Having more energy is a wonderful thing, and it feeds itself too, since I've managed to get into the rhythm of regular exercise again.

When it comes to writing, I managed pretty much what I attempted. Nothing fancy, but certainly a respectable amount of work done.

I came up with the title to Our Sharp Edges Aligned at the proverbial last minute yesterday, during the final read through of the chapter. The second chapter will hopefully be posted on Tuesday(ish) and all of it will definitely be squeezed out by the 23rd.

I continued my RBB fic, which continues coming along easily, enough so that I'm sort of paranoid of how long it will last. I'm definitely enjoying it now, though. I'm contemplating on giving Steve a cat in it...

Also, is it too early to consider what the holiday (and by this I mean the one at the end of December) fic would be? I found myself thinking of that while on a walk this morning. For the last three years I've done AUs, but I kind of don't have one at the back of my mind right now. I do have a few canon divergent ideas, one of which is pretty rough going. For some reason it amused me to think of choosing that one, "happy holidays here's a bunch of angst" :D It might not work with the twelve chapter thing, though. So no decision, but that's where my head was at today, for some weird reason.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
Apparently I forgot to do this last weekend. Oh well, let's cover the two week span then. I had one pretty unproductive (mostly due to external reasons) week, and one reasonably productive week.

I mostly worked on the Cap RBB fic, which is coming along very well. I just sent the draft of the first quarter to my artist, and I have more bits and pieces written as well. It'll be my main writing effort over the coming weeks. I'm glad writing it is fairly easy, I suspect the general energy boost is helping with that, but whatever the reason, I'll take it.

Easily flowing writing is especially welcome, since I've been immersed in my pre-IW fic since the start of the year, and the process with it mostly hasn't been easy or productive. It took entirely too long considering the word count, but the first draft is done \o/, and it's now in editing. First chapter will be out sometime next week, whenever the edits are finished, and I'll post the rest as soon as they're done. I will definitely post all eight chapters before Endgame is out.

It's funny, because the writing was such a drag, it reflected on what I thought of the story. I suspected it was entirely too slow and muddled. However, when I read it, it turned out it actually wasn't as bad as I'd suspected, which lifted my mood considerably, and I'm editing pretty happily now. I still need to come up with a title, the placeholder has been Compromises, but it definitely won't be the final one.

stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
Well, this spring is definitely going to be one of those times at work, very hectic, which means my writing output will not increase as much as I expected with the spring coming and me getting more energetic (I clearly run on solar power, I need about half an hour less sleep in summer compared to winter).

This week I only worked on my Cap RBB fic, which I'm prioritizing since it's the one with an actual deadline. I did meet the goal I'd set myself for the week, so I'm pretty satisfied in general. I have a very solid detailed outline now all the way through, and I did some actual writing on it as well. More next week again.

I'm kind of itching to finish the pre-IW fic, since I only have one chapter left to write. I'm already getting to the mindset of soon being able to let it out of the gate, but it's only the second priority, so we will have to see how my coming weeks turn out. I definitely do hope to have it all posted before Endgame, which should be easily doable.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
This week was not as productive as I'd hoped (in general it feels like this year just refuses to start, but maybe soon) due to the cold I had already last weekend being hell of a tenacious one. It was not an ideal vacation when it comes to activity, but my stress levels are definitely down, which was the main goal to achieve.

I'm currently puzzling over the outline of my Cap RBB fic. I'm putting more effort on it than I normally do on outlines, because due to the deadlines of the bang and everything else going on I need to know it's not going to run long. I keep getting distracted by writing snippets which may or may not end up in the finished product. I'm laughing by myself at some of the interactions between the characters, and I'm also very much trying to break my own heart with some of the other parts of it, so good times:D

Anyway, I'm aiming at somewhere around 20k with the story, the length can handle the plot I have as long as I'm not getting distracted by tangents (hence the planning), and won't take all of my writing time over the next couple of months to finish it. As it is, it wouldn't be realistic to expect me to be contently working on just one story in the near future. For the first couple of months of this year I worked basically on just one fic, but I'm feeling more creative again, so maybe it'll translate into writing more as well, but it'll definitely mean I will want to work on more stories. For starters, I'm going to want to finish the fic I've been working on soonish while writing the RBB fic.

As of now, the draft of the pre-IW fic is at 34k. I finished chapters six and seven this week, and there's one left to write. It shouldn't be a terribly long one, so the draft will definitely be under 40k, but the finished version might go above.

In addition I continued adding notes to the regular Cap-bang fic as well as one another story that currently exists as an outline. As I said, it definitely feels like my head is kicking out more ideas than it has recently. Maybe it's just that we're finally starting to get some sun for a decent part of a day. I'm definitely solar powered in that I've got more energy when it's lighter.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
Very up and down with writing these days, last week was a good one, this week not so much. Part of it was just being busy, and then the sluggishness I felt even when I had time turned out to be another head cold. I'm definitely hoping that my nose is significantly less stuffed tomorrow. On one hand, it sucks to be sick now that it's my vacation week, on the other maybe being able to properly rest will help me heal well enough that this thing will be wholly banished now.

Anyway, I wrote a bit for the pre-IW fic, not anywhere near an impressive word count, but a very significant scene done.

I also did claim at the Cap RBB. I had to consider my spring calendar, but I am confident I have time for this. I did claim late, though; the time was at five a.m. for me and I actually woke up for a bit just before, but there was no way I was getting up, I was feeling miserable with this bug. Three hours later I was much better, and it turned out a couple of my top choices we're still unclaimed. I'm feeling very inspired.
stellahibernis: (pillars of creation)
I'm still working on the same fic I have been since last month, but this week was definitely more productive than any other yet this year. I managed to get a good bit done, including a fairly challenging part of the story, so I'm well satisfied.

It's funny because I've often tended to juggle at least a couple of stories actively in my mind, but recently it's been pretty much just this one. I occasionally do think of the fic that will probably be the Cap BB fic of the year, writing notes on plot points etc, but it's still very much at the back of my head.

Soon there will be another thing actively on my mind though, most likely anyway, since the Cap RBB art is due today and claims are next weekend. Apparently at 5 AM on Sunday my time, fun. At least it's not a case of cutting in on my critical sleeping time, since I'll be on vacation for the next week, so I'll have plenty of time to sleep in. Anyway, unless I run into a complete writer's block with the prompts, I'll be participating in that.

In non-writing news, I started watching Babylon Berlin, and two episodes in it's definitely my jam.

I'll probably take part in this as a writer this year, unless it looks like my spring schedule becomes too busy. I mean, the about ten weeks minimum for the writing is definitely enough for the requirement, only I'd be hell of a surprised if I ended up with a story that's not significantly longer than 5k. And then you have to allow for editing and beta, so I'll be looking at my other obligations. But hopefully I can do it.
