I mean, there's definitely the butthurt fanboy group as you say, but there also does feel like there are more nitpicking from other people too. The no-handbag person above was a woman, for example. It often feels like movies with something other than the default straight white guy lead are held to a different standard, when it should be okay for those too to be just generally enjoyable. (Although I'd definitely say all three mentioned reach farther than that).
However, the gleeful fan reaction is my favorite thing about the surrounding hubbub, Carol has been one of my favorites for years, so it's great to see her fandom grow.
